In The Shed

In The Shed was not the second song Pierre and I wrote together - indeed plenty of other songs had been written and are in production as we speak - but it was the song that best accompanied the melodrama of Hourglass Café. Unlike Hourglass Café the meaning is fairly obvious and I hope little introduction is required other than that the events depicted are not autobiographical in any sense.

The song is just another break up song. You've heard them before. I've heard them before. I've even heard songs which discuss infidelity and cheating within the home and one's surrounding area before. Is the song entirely bromidic and unoriginal then?

I would say no - well duh of course I would - but I would hope you might too because of the blends of sounds and styles in the song itself. It started out, as many of the best songs do, with a riff supplied in this case by Pierre. I heard it and said "I could write a lyric for that" and so I did. A simple enough affair given the music genius of PCB which is what I shall be calling Pierre Catherine-Buffet from now on rather than PolyChlorinated Biphenyl the environmental toxin or Printed Circuit Board though I have no doubt if required Pierre could easily pollute the oceans or personally direct electrons through your device without breaking a sweat.

The song's verses started very differently to how they are now heard on the track which explains the strange and somewhat non-rhythmic quality with which they are sung but it was a good choice. I feel it's much easier to portray emotion when singing when given the freedom to mess around a little bit with the rhythm because, at the end of the day, we don't really have much of a rhythm when talking let alone screaming at a treachurous lover.

The song has tinged of electronic pop, classical dance, punky angst, and somewhat reminds me of We Are Number One from Lazytown if it were about cheaters and heart thieves rather than about evil baddies who only mean to do you harm. Food for thought eh?

In The Shed

VERSE 1

Flee where you think I won't see you sitting
And I'll hide somewhere further away
Act like a puppet but your teeth are gritting
You had every choice to just stay away

CHORUS 1

Came at me so fast
Wasn't meant to last
Betrayal chose instead
On a bed
Of wood and grass

Shovel to the side
A potential bride
Lying on the floor
Open door
Nowhere to hide

VERSE 2

Act the fool if it makes you feel better
Just make sure I don't have to hear more of it
Rather be let down with a letter
Than catch you in the garden on the carpet

PRE-CHORUS

So I go to town
And I paint it red
Still not looking dumb
Feeling numb
Raise the dead

Moon up in the sky

Flesh made up of bread

Sneak him in at night

Still not bright

In the shed
(In the shed)
(In the shed)

CHORUS 2

Still cannot believe
This is going on
What did I do
To make you
Slither along

I'm keeping the dog
You can keep the house
Should sleep in a den
Since you creep
Round like a mouse

Loneliness is tough
Fake love is far worse
Rather live alone
Than share a home
With a curse

I'll keep myself sane
You're gone in the head
Let me breakdown once
Setting fire
